Why we built this
We celebrate the routine, the technique, and the hours in the studio — and we also wanted a stage that rewards the human inside it.
The Improv Showdown is what makes The It Factor different. It's built for the dancers who light up a room without being told how — the ones with instinct, personality, and presence you can't choreograph.
This is where uniqueness wins. This is where the It Factor lives.
The Format
Dancers improvise across Jazz, Lyrical, and Contemporary throughout the Showdown. The genre for each round is announced in advance — the song is always a surprise. Dancers don't necessarily perform all three styles in every round; different rounds may feature different genres.
Each dancer will improvise to a surprise song within the announced genre. Round lengths may vary depending on the stage of the competition and the number of registered dancers, with later rounds receiving additional performance time.
Dancers advance through bracket-style rounds within their own age division. One winner from each age division at each event will be crowned Miss or Mr. IT Factor of the Year for that division.
No costumes required. Dancers should wear normal dancewear. Black, fitted dancewear is recommended so judges can focus on the dancer's movement rather than the outfit.
Round times are a general format and may be adjusted based on the number of registered dancers.

One winner from each age division will be crowned the IT Factor Improv Champion and receive the title of Miss or Mr. IT Factor of the Year for their age division — the proof that you've got something nobody can teach.
